You have known since birth that one day your shift would come. Each season, a guard to keep it bound. Each guard, to ensure the door never opened. You were excited to test yourself and knew to heed your elders’ warnings. Do not listen to its honeyed words. Do not speak lest you reveal your own weakness. But the winter is long and dark and you are so alone. And the voice from behind the door almost feels like home…

The Winter Guard is a 1-page solo/journaling TTRPG using the Second Guess SRD created by William Lentz.

This TTRPG only requires a way to record your entries, a d20, and d6 to play and is perfect for:

• Prompting a short story

• Creating a backstory for an existing character

• Completing a gothic horror (or gothic romance) journaling experience

Your Shift Begins…

It has been weeks since you started your shift as winter guard and there will be many more still before the spring guard takes over. The days are short and the nights are long, though both drag in the frozen solitude. The elders were clear that you must not speak to The Prisoner. But each day you find yourself drawn closer to the door, aching to learn more about whatever being is trapped within.
