About This Game

This is asolo mystery game. You are the official Letter Carrier for the kingdom of Ever After. With your trusty mail bag, a friendly smile, and a strong sense of direction, you bring letters all across the land. Unfortunately, Prince Charming is missing, and Cinderella has asked you to investigate on your mail route! 

The Fairy Tale Mail Mystery uses a modified version of the Second Guess System, with some adjustments to support whimsical, fairy tale play: 

  • Faster movement towards a winning Investigation Score with adjusted modifiers. 

  • Randomized fairy tale characters using the Tale Table. 

  • A Suspect List to track characters you've used and how often you build the case against them. 

  • A Second Chance mechanic - when you don't solve the puzzle, eliminate a lead and continue the investigation. 

To play, you will need a d6 or two, a d20, something to write with and something to write on. In an ideal world, you can write the mail on separate pieces of paper, like looseleaf or index cards, or even spare greeting cards. 

Inspired by The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, along with a whole host of other fairy tales and nursery rhymes, this fractured fairy tale game invites you to actually write the letters sent between residents of the Kingdom of Ever After. Use the d20 prompts to guide the investigation, and use the Tale Table to generate characters for each prompt, whether they're receiving mail or giving you a new lead.
